1. Check Local Zoning Laws and HOA Rules

Before you dig a hole for a post, you need to ensure you are legally allowed to place a structure on your property.

• Zoning Laws: Most cities do not have specific ordinances against Little Free Libraries as long as they are on private property. However, they must not obstruct sidewalks, sightlines for traffic, or right-of-ways. Keep the box at least a few feet back from the curb.
